Oh, in Singapore I would pay half the taxes and have better medical care and the medical care costs much less, has less wait time and just as good of care. Bye bye USA… The USA is a waste of a perfectly good retirement dream. He’s right, there is no government fix, just a government disaster.

We pay hundreds per month for insurance, my company pays even more that we do. I ended up in the ER in the US, paying for 4 pills and a five hour total time for the Dr. to give me the four pills. Same service in Singapore with two doctors was $14.00 w/o insurance. Over the counter for the same thing in Malaysia was 100 name brand pills for $1.30 USD at a large pharmacy and no wait. Our system sucks it is just that most US citizens do not travel outside of the US and have nothing to compare with.

Preventative care is definately something we do not have here in the US. The average time a patient spends with their doctor per visit is only 8 minutes.

And people wonder why doctor’s malpractice insurance costs are so high?

Depends what you are in for. A checkup is immediate. If it is a non-serious injury at A&E then during normal hours you are tended to immediately, in busy times it could be a couple of hours (but then it is a non-critical injury and you could just book a time and come back). If it is a critical injury then it is immediate.

Treatment time again depends on the problem. Prescription drug costs are capped at £7.20 per set of drugs. As I said the focus is on prevention which reduces the burden.

How long is an average doctor visit in the UK?

In the UK the cost of healthcare is £100 billion for a population of 61.4 million people. Which is £1630($2600) per person per year.

The US average cost per person is $4800 per year.

Prevention of illnesses is much more important. Changing to the new system will focus on this and reduce the costs. You will all be better off as a result. You will have more money in your pocket, that is capitalism.

Healthcare in the UK and EU aren’t free. How much do you pay in taxes? It’s probably not as much as here in America.

Do people actually like the idea of collectively paying for everybody else’s healthcare? I can only speak for myself when I say that I would not like to pay for the fatso down the street, or any other fatty for that matter, or any other person, sick or healthy.

Take away the government and the insurance companies. Why do we need a middleman?

@bennybay1 Did you even read my comment? What does what you are saying have anything to do with what I said…? I SPECIFICALLY said that I do not think health care reform is a bad thing. What I was talking about is the current health care “reform” that is being shoved down American’s throats by Obama. I don’t feel like explaining it all over again, it’s in my other comment…but basically what I was saying is that Obama’s plan is not really REFORM, that is why I don’t want it.

The UK has universal health care under the NHS and it is hugely popular. But that is because we (and most europeans who have the same syetem) are far more politically, intellectually and morally developed than Americans who view health care as a commodity like a car on an iphone, whereas we see health as a RIGHT. This guy on the video says its a bad thing to get FREE health care. U spend more money in Iraq in 5 months than this plan proposes over 5 years, and 30 million Americans are uncovered.

It seriously took you 3 weeks to come up with such a pathetic rant? Really?

If you’re going to go all Gulag and claim like a complete idiot that my calling you out for your bullshit makes me mentally unstable, then congratulations, your I.Q. is now lower than that of a cheese sandwich.

The only place I’m “out of my league” is concerning one’s ability to spew complete nonsense. You have me beat on that.

“…and ignore you while you stew in your own rancid bile.” Jesus effin Christ, how rich.

Wow, not only are you ignorant and out of your league, but you’re quite obviously mentally unstable. Although I find your rants rather entertaining it’s time I do like everyone else in here seems to do and ignore you while you stew in your own rancid bile. Have a nice life … and get back on your meds.

- it won’t matter because anyone suddenly sick or injured can just sign up for health care on the way to the hospital. So the system won’t work because there’s no reason for anyone healthy to buy health care. So I’m not saying that reform isn’t necessary but OBAMACARE is not reform; it’s just one giant leap towards Socialism and the ruin of this country. -this might be posted twice because it didn’t seem to post the first time….

- healthy people need to buy the insurance to pay for the unhealthy people, but most healthy people would rather take the fine that the government will impose instead of paying astronomical costs for health care they don’t feel they need. I know this for a fact because I currently have no health insurance, and I’m very lucky to be healthy, and I guarantee you it will be cheaper to take the fine than health care. And if you think I’m stupid to not have health care -

What are you talking about? Give me one example of a country where socialized health care has worked out “better then America” as you put it. Everything that I’ve read about or heard about is the opposite…that’s why I posted my comment. If I had seen an example of government controlled “universal” health care work, that I would maybe believe it could work for the U.S. You don’t seem to understand why this won’t work

Do you think the insurance companys are any better….they been denying people for decades…pretty much murdering people…putting money before peoples heath…All over the world governments control healthcare for the people…and they are all better then America…

Well, they had it coming to them really, their own greed and irresponsibility has forced the state to interfere because they have been riding the gravy train of denying people care that they are entitled to for so long. But I doubt many of them are going to be unemployed, they’ll be employed in a different capacity to do with insurance, it’s just that the state will regulate along with public authorities who will employ the insurance company workers.

What about all the people who will lose their jobs because they work for the health insurance companies?

TheJimmy975

JCPUTT, you are as thick as two short planks. In Europe socialized healthcare has been going about for about 50 years, it’s successful and there is no such thing as ‘intrusive govt’ just because the healthcare system is supported by the state. Right now you are living in a corporate dictatorship where the govt is powerless to the whims of private bankers etc. Well up until now that is, Obama has been breaking up the centralised power of the corps, UHC is a part of this and it’s a good thing.

February 7th, 2010 @10:08 pm

@TheJimmy975 The term”Health Care” is
part of the whole hustle job for a more
intrusive government. It’s Socialized
Medicine. Care is what people should do
for themselves. Medicine, is that which
requires professional attention.
When and if our medical system
becomes socialized, it will be saturated
with know nothing hacks and Kool-Aid
drinkers. And Bow Tied Bum Kissers.

Health Care: My ass!

Why am I an idiot. I know the difference between socialized healthcare and a compromized insurance system. You don’t and your reply proves that,. There is NOTHING WRONG with socialized healthcare; the thing that’s getting passed through just now isn’t socialized healthcare though.

TheJimmy975
February 7th, 2010 @11:18 pm

Americans have destroyed the single payer system bill through their own stupidity – this is why you have the situation with the compromised bill. And you are calling it socialism. Are all these americans that protested over the single payer system have changed it to the option you have now… which isn’t a socialised system at all… and this is why you have this problem. Check out BUPA, the uk has it sorted. It wouldn’t have been there without the NHS.

TheJimmy975
February 7th, 2010 @11:35 pm

A highly compromized healthcare bill in the interests of insurance companies is NOT socialized healthcare, socialized healthcare is a single payer system where the cost is spread out so you’re not paying all that much. If it was socialized healthcare it would work JUST FINE the cost being spread out, everybody being treated and nobody losing their life savings for getting treatment. Vote for a SINGLE PAYER, nothing else.

February 8th, 2010 @1:47 pm

the only system that can work is one where healthcare being a “for-profit business” is outlawed. The most efficient system would be a single-payer and the most expeditious would be to open up the Medicare program for all…the system is ALREADY in place!
(For the uninformed) UnitedHealthcare runs and rules the entire industry. Their INGENIX arm contracts with every other health insurer and tells them what to pay and what not to pay …explain how that is legal and not collusion….1 health Insurer telling every other insurer how to deny claims, not pay doctor’s, not pay hosptials and leave the burden on the patient even though the patient HAS PAID already for an insurance p;lan that is supposed to cover the services. Even pre-authorized services get denied. And then they have their other “consulting” company – the Lewin Group – that “advises” on the future of healthcare with their projections.
For all u uninformed tea-party ignorami, go ahead and keep your “insurance” but shut your mouth and suck it when your premiums double if not triple and you can’t afford them…who’s going to help u then….what should happen is everyone who votes against universal healthcare should be banned from the single-payer system and be left without benefits and have to pay for their own healthcare personally because THEY are responsible for the delays and bloated deficit by their ignorance. A nation is judged by the health of its citizens, the US is on life-support and without change, someone will pull the plug.
HEALTHCARE SHOULD BE A RIGHT FOR ALL, NOT FOR THOSE WHO CAN AFFORD TO PAY FOR INSURANCE.
